Helping Construct Your Narrative
The college process gets a bad rap sometimes. There is too much focus on a ‘silver bullet’ or doing everything to ‘look good’ to colleges, and that can feel really inauthentic and stressful. The truth is, when done right, the process is actually deeply genuine; one about which students and parents can feel immense pride. One of the ways this is achieved is by considering how a student can articulate his/her/their own story, thereby ensuring that each application feels deeply personal.
As an English major in college, it is no wonder that Sarah’s favorite part of college counseling is helping students uncover their voices and stories through narrative writing and interviewing. Her essay writing approach, which begins with an ‘Identity Exercise’ has served as a springboard for hundreds of essays, helping students discover more about who they are and, by design, working to distinguish themselves in a sea of applicants.
